The author examines the situation with gender equality in Ukraine. Studies the reasons for the discrepancy between the formal and real situation regarding gender equality, propose the possible ways to improve regulation and its implementation. Describes in detail gender stereotypes and gender attitudes that exist in Ukrainian society. Emphasizes that they are gradually undergoing transformations under the influence of the active introduction of femininities. The author pays special attention to the issues of gender equality in the spheres of national security and defense, economic activity. The purpose of the article is to find out the peculiarities of the ideology of gender equality in Ukraine and the role of the state and the members of society in the formation of a new, fair attitude to women. The research methodology is formed by the dialectical-materialist method of scientific knowledge of social phenomena, as well as general scientific methods of formal logic (deduction, induction, analogy, analysis, synthesis, abstraction and concretization, modeling), special methods of legal science (search and processing, monitoring). Scientific novelty – the doctrine of women’s rights in modern society and the state has received further scientific development; improved theoretical material on the issue of gender equality in Ukrainian society (causes and consequences of the existing gender ideology); the need to form a new ideology of gender equality is emphasized. Conclusions. The state has a powerful influence on a woman’s understanding of her purpose in life, role in the state and society. However, the actual implementation of the principles of gender equality, as well as the implementation of so-called “positive actions” aimed at eliminating the imbalance between the capabilities of women and men, largely depends on the activity of the right holders themselves
