The article considers religious terrorism in the context of threats to global security. In the process of analyzing scientific achievements of domestic and international scientists, it was found that religious terrorism becomes the most popular and dangerous type of terrorism based on the religious fanaticism. The purposes inherent exclusively to religious terrorism were identified, including: apocalyptic, formation of religious government (theocracy), purges on religious grounds. It was also acknowledged that terrorism in many countries of the world emerged not only in the result of political, religious, ethnic and economic contradictions and conflicts, but actually because of the high level of corruption. Emphasized that the situation that has developed in Ukraine as a result of activity of various modern religious organizations (cults), require urgent measures to counteract the development of sectarian extremism in all its forms. Based on the key issues to counteract religious terrorism, it was concluded that national legislation needs improvement in this sphere. A striking example, given the need to protect human rights from the negative effects of destructive cults, is the experience of European countries, namely Germany, France, Belgium, Poland. They have introduced a range of measures that restrict the activity of destructive sects and movements. These European countries adopt appropriate legislative and other regulations that restrict the activities of totalitarian sects and solve problems further their existence, and to prevent their dangerous operation and radicalization.At the same time it should be emphasized that Ukraine holds an inconsistent policy, keeping clear and remains a country whose citizens are not protected from the totalitarian pseudo radicalism.
