The article reviews researches of investigations in to murders related to missing persons in the following groups: 1) dissertations and monographs on the problems of the investigation and solving murders related to missing persons; 2) dissertations and monographs on the problems of prevention of this type of crime and criminal liability for its committing; 3) dissertations and monographs dealing with killers’ psychological characteristics; 4) studies stated in manuals, guidelines and research articles that have been conducted on this subject. The conclusion about the lack of theoretical and practical development on this subject has been made and the following questions have not been studied yet on the monographic level: historical analysis of the legislation concerning the investigation into murders related to missing persons; international experience of combating murders related to missing persons; description of the circumstances to be established and proven during the investigation of murders related to missing persons; typical studies of the initial phase of the investigation into murders related to missing persons; investigative and operational units’ interaction in the investigation into murders related to missing persons; tactics of investigative (detective) actions during the investigation into murders related to a missing person; tactics of covert investigative (detective) actions during the investigation into murders related to a missing person; especially the use of confidential cooperation during the covert investigative (detective) actions related to missing persons.
